The seasons have a massive impact on life’s rhythms. Spring brings with it, new horizons, new life, warmth and light, the wake-up call for all of earths creatures - including the Carp. It’s the time of year where Fisheries come alive with action, Fish farms begin the cycle of new life, feeding and getting their fish ready for harvest later in the year.
Summer is the time of year that brings with it those long days, surface feeding fish, the Carp grow in body frame, recover condition after spawning and lakes give up their secrets. At the Fish Farm it’s time to get plenty of healthy food into the growing fish.
Autumn arrives heralded by the late summer dew, the weather breaks and suddenly we begin to realise how much the fish have grown. Anglers get as much time fishing as possible - winter waits in the wings.
At the Fish Farm, orders have been coming in and the plans for winter deliveries are underway. Winter arrives, often with a shock. Fishing slows down and it is time for deliveries of new stock. It’s a great season for maintenance. This year at our fishery we have done mountains of tree work, extensive marginal planting, bramble clearance, tree planting (see photo bottom right). And of course we couldn’t resist it, we've stocked 20 of our best Italian strain Mirrors into our syndicate to maintain the stock around 300 Fish (photo bottom left).
This had been long in the plan. However, we have noticed that it’s not until the quieter times of winter that fishery owners start to reflect, and it’s not unusual to receive a flurry of late winter orders - It’s that time of year! It’s the time of year to review the stock at your lake. What's required now, what’s coming through for the future, what balance of Carp strains and varieties are required?
If you would like help in answering these questions we are here to help. We also have the Carp you need to safeguard the future of your fishery.
